My first challenge (South Asia Challenge 2011) and I am very keen to introduce some Sri Lankan authors and also go beyond the popular south asian authors as well

That is very nice , I have already read one book , The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid . I am trying very hard to get the book called "The secret daughter"..and 'The purple hibiscus' but my pocket money is just not enough :)

This is also my first time with the south Asian challenge and I'm hoping to read books mainly by Salman Rushdie.

I read "The enchantress of Florence "by him . Its a lovely book . His fantasy is much better than his serious works . I did not like Midnight's children despite the critical acclaim .

I have to agree with you on Midnight's Children. Unfortunately that kept me away from the rest of his books.

Read Luka and the fire... it is an awesome book .. it gives me more hope in fantasy fiction .. I really need to complete Man and his symbols.. I read 1 part of 5 which was by Jung himself.. but now worry whether i will be able to connect still .. dont worry .. just didnt pick it up .. Have to read a PuZo novel too :)
